The largest markets as they looked by the end of 2010
At the end of 2010 China was for the first time in history in top with 21,8 percent of the world's cumulative capacity. In second place is last year's number 1, United States with 20,7 percent of the world's cumulative capacity. 

Denmark is in the tenth place with 3.752 MW, or 1,9 percent of the world's cumulative capacity.

New installed capacity in 2010
Also in 2010 the majority of new capacit was put up in China. 

More than 45 percent of the world's new capacity was installed in China, and 14,3 percent of all new capacity was put up in the United States. 

 

 

 

The development since 1996

With the exception of 2010, there has been an increase in installed wind capacity since 1996. Even though not as impressive as 2009, note that 2010 was significantly better than 2008, which at that time was the best year in history.
